A tube fits by two numbers and a valve type, and Fischer publishes all three.

What the manufacturer publishes

ETRTO 40/62-559. A Schrader (Auto) valve. An elastic construction described as covering several tire sizes. Quality and durability as a stated priority across Fischer products.

Reading the size

Five hundred and fifty-nine is the rim bead seat diameter in millimeters — what is usually sold as “26 inch”. Forty to sixty-two is the tire width range in millimeters the tube stretches to cover, which is a 26-inch mountain bike from a fast 1.5 inch tire to a 2.4 inch one.

Both numbers are molded on your tire sidewall. Photograph it before ordering; it settles the tube, the tire and, if the valve is visible, the valve type in one go.

The valve, and the rim hole

Rims are drilled for a specific valve diameter. A Presta tube in a Schrader-drilled rim rattles and can tear at the base unless a grommet is fitted; a Schrader tube will not go through a Presta-drilled rim at all. Check what is currently in your wheel.

The stem length

Not published. On a standard box-section mountain bike rim this is unlikely to matter; on a deep rim it is the specification that decides whether a pump head can grip.

The questions riders ask

Will it fit my bike?

Check the two ETRTO numbers molded on your tire sidewall. The second must be 559, and the first must fall between 40 and 62. Anything else is a different tube.

What is a Schrader valve?

The wide car-type valve, abbreviated AV in German listings. Your rim is drilled for one valve diameter — a Presta tube rattles in a Schrader-drilled rim, and a Schrader tube will not pass through a Presta-drilled one at all.
