Two width ranges, three valve lengths, one listing
Ultraverse 700C butyl, Presta, 2-pack with levers
Two 700C butyl tubes with tire levers, on a listing whose stated tire width and valve length contradict themselves.
Read the listing twice before buying this one
This is a 700C butyl tube supplied in pairs with two tire levers, at $15.99. The problem is that its own page gives two incompatible width ranges and three different valve lengths, and on this shelf that is the specification where being wrong means the tube does not work at all.
| where on the listing | tire width | valve |
|---|
| Title | 700×35-43c | 48 mm (1.89 in) Presta |
| Bullet 1 | 700×23C, 24C, 25C (18/25-622) | 60 mm (2.36 in) Presta (FV60) |
| Bullet 2 | — | FV48 |
| Bullet 5 | 700×35C–43C | — |
A tube for an 18–25 mm (0.71 to 0.98 in) road tire and a tube for a 35–43 mm (1.38 to 1.69 in) gravel tire are different objects. Stretched into a 43 mm (1.69 in) tire, a road tube is thin-walled and punctures; folded into a 23 mm (0.91 in) tire, a wide tube pinches on the bead. And 48 mm (1.89 in) against 60 mm (2.36 in) of valve is the difference between reaching through a deep rim and not.
The title and bullet 5 agree on 700×35-43C, and the title and bullet 2 agree on 48 mm (1.89 in). Bullet 1 is the odd one out on both counts, and its wording — “designed to fit 28 inch wheel sizes across 700x23C, 700x24C, and 700x25C” — reads like text carried over from the brand’s narrow road tube, which is a separate product.
That is a reading, not a fact. Treat the ETRTO in bullet 1, 18/25-622, as unverified and ask the seller before ordering if your tire is near either edge of 35–43 mm (1.38 to 1.69 in).
What is not in doubt
- two tubes in the box, and two tire levers
- butyl, mold-cured, with a reinforced valve base
- 381 g (13.4 oz) for the pair, about 190 g (6.7 oz) a tube
- Presta, on 622 mm (24.5 in) rims
At 190 g (6.7 oz) a tube this is a heavy 700C tube: the Continental Race 28 on this page is about 100 g (3.5 oz), because it is built for a 25 mm (0.98 in) tire rather than a 43 mm (1.69 in) one. For a gravel or hybrid bike that weight is the right trade, and the levers are worth having.
The sibling listing is the clean one
Ultraverse also sells the 26-inch tube reviewed on this page, and that listing does the job properly: one width range, one ETRTO pair (45/57-559), one valve (Schrader AV32). Same brand, same format, no contradiction.
Which suggests the contradictions here are editing, not the product. It does not make them safe to ignore.
What is not published
No wall thickness, no weight per tube, and no resolution of the width or valve conflict. The pressure range is not given either, which is correct — that belongs on the tire.
