Our conclusion The right compromise for a bike with no eyelets. Confirm the tire width clearance, because wheel size alone does not settle it.
BALOU’s set is the mountain bike answer: partial coverage that fits bikes full-length guards cannot.
What the manufacturer publishes
Front and rear mudguards for mountain bikes with 24 to 29 inch wheels.
Why clip-on guards exist
A full-length guard mounts to threaded eyelets on the frame and fork, and covers most of the wheel. Most mountain bikes have no eyelets, and suspension forks generally cannot take stays at all. Clip-on guards attach to the fork crown or lowers and to the seatpost, covering the arc where most spray comes from and nothing else.
Less coverage, but they fit the bike you actually have.
The specification that is missing
Tire width clearance. On a mountain bike this matters more than wheel diameter: a guard cleared for a 2.1 inch tire will foul a 2.5 inch one, and off-road it will pack with mud long before it physically touches. Wheel size alone does not settle it.
What they change
Most of the water that soaks a rider comes off their own tires. Even partial guards make a large difference to how wet you get and to how much grit reaches the drivetrain, which is the argument for them on a bike that never sees a road.

The questions riders ask
Will it clear my tires?
BALOU states 24 to 29 inch wheels but does not publish a tire width clearance. Width is what actually decides fit on a mountain bike — a guard sized to a 29 inch wheel can still foul a 2.5 inch tire. Check with the seller.
Do I need eyelets on the frame?
No. These mount without the threaded eyelets that full-length guards need, which is the point — most mountain bikes do not have them.
