MIVELO Cube PRO light set with brake function review

A StVZO-declared rechargeable set whose rear lamp adds a brake-light function, with two output levels at 30 and 15 lux and an IPX5 rating.

Our conclusion Worth the premium over the Antimi only if the brake function appeals. On every other specification the two are close.

MIVELO’s Cube PRO is the only set here with a rear lamp that responds to braking.

What the manufacturer publishes

Two output modes at 30 and 15 lux. StVZO approval. Up to 6 hours of battery life with USB charging. IPX5 waterproofing. A brake-light function on the rear lamp and a wide beam cone. Tool-free click mounting.

The brake function

A rear lamp that brightens under deceleration gives following traffic a signal that a steady lamp does not. It is a genuinely useful idea on a commuter in traffic. What the manufacturer does not publish is how deceleration is detected — accelerometer, magnet, or otherwise — or the threshold at which it triggers. We report the feature as stated and flag what is not stated, because the sensitivity is what decides whether the feature is useful or merely present.

Against the Antimi

Both are StVZO-declared, IPX5, rechargeable, around 30 lux, around 6 hours. The Antimi adds USB-C and a 220° rear spread and outsells this comfortably. This adds the brake function. At close prices, that is the whole decision.

The maker

MIVELO is the same small German family firm as the folding lock in the locks hub, which is worth knowing if you like buying from one supplier.

The questions riders ask

How does the brake light work?

MIVELO states that the rear lamp has a brake-light function. The manufacturer does not publish how deceleration is detected or at what threshold, so we report the feature and not a mechanism.

Is it waterproof?

The manufacturer states IPX5, which is a defined protection level against water jets — a stronger statement than a description of the housing.

Our score

7.8/ 10

Worth the premium over the Antimi only if the brake function appeals. On every other specification the two are close.
