A crowd-network tag and a SIM tracker fail in completely different places · review
egmatec Fork steerer plug for AirTag / SmartTag2 review
A holder that hides a tag inside the fork steerer of a mountain bike, fitting internal diameters of 32 to 38 mm (1.26 to 1.50 in) and doubling as a plug against dirt.
Our conclusion The best-hidden option here, if your fork takes it. Measure the steerer's internal diameter first.
egmatec’s plug puts the tag somewhere nobody looks, and solves a second small problem while it is there.
What the manufacturer publishes
Injection molded, made in Germany. Simple, secure and hidden mounting of an AirTag or SmartTag2 in a mountain bike fork. A single version for steerer internal diameters of 32 to 38 mm (1.26 to 1.50 in) — if the tag fits into the opening, the holder fits. Usable as a plug to prevent dirt collecting in the fork steerer.
Why the steerer is the best hiding place
A thief checking a bike for a tracker looks under the saddle, in the bottle cage and at the bar ends. The inside of the fork steerer is not a place anyone thinks about, and it needs the bike partly dismantled to reach.
The constraint
Your fork has to have an accessible open steerer of the right internal size. Many mountain bike forks do; many road forks do not, and some are filled by a star nut or expander plug that is doing structural work. Check before ordering, and do not remove anything holding the headset in preload.
The dirt plug
A genuinely useful secondary function. An open steerer collects grit and water; a plug keeps both out.
On what the tag does
Like every crowd-network tag, it has no GPS and no SIM. It reports when another phone passes. In a city that works; on an empty road it does not.

Under-saddle mount · ABS · AirTag 1 and 2 · universal saddle fit
An under-saddle AirTag holder in ABS, stated to fit almost any saddle across mountain, e-, road and city bikes, and compatible with both AirTag generations.
Best for: Any bike, because it needs no measurement — the fallback when the fork and bottle cage options do not fit.
