What the manufacturer publishes

Why it is worth thirty grams in a pocket

Saddle padding is a sponge. A saddle left in rain overnight holds water in its foam, and pressing on it the next day pushes that water straight through into your clothing. It takes a day or more to dry properly.

A cover fitted when you park keeps it dry, and it costs almost nothing in weight or money.

The two covers

The one caution

Do not leave a cover on a wet saddle in the sun. Water underneath cannot evaporate and the saddle stays damp for longer than if you had left it uncovered. Fit it when you park, remove it when the weather turns.

Why does a wet saddle matter so much?

Saddle padding absorbs water and holds it. A saddle soaked overnight is still wet the next evening, and the water goes straight into whatever you are wearing.

Can I leave it on all the time?

Better not. A cover over a wet saddle in sun traps moisture against the material. Fit it when you park and take it off when the bike is dry.
