A chain is chosen by speed count and shortened to length during fitting. This one covers the three counts that most city and trekking bikes use.

What the manufacturer publishes

Universal compatibility for 6, 7 and 8-speed gears, stated as suiting city, trekking and mountain bikes. A robust steel construction for long life and reliable shifting. Even power transmission for smooth, precise shifting. Simple installation.

Why 6, 7 and 8-speed share a chain

Chains get narrower as speed counts rise, because the sprockets pack closer together. At 6, 7 and 8 speeds the spacing is close enough that one width serves all three. From 9-speed upwards, each count needs its own.

Fitting it

The supplied chain is shortened to your bike. Every drivetrain manufacturer publishes a method for setting length, and the methods differ enough that following the wrong one leaves you a full link out. Use the instructions for your own derailleur.

Availability

Catalogued and unsold: the American Amazon shop lists the reference with nobody behind it.

The questions riders ask

How do I know if my bike is 8-speed?

Count the sprockets on the rear wheel. That number is the chain's speed rating, and it is the one specification where a near miss does not work at all.

How many links does it have?

Prophete does not publish a link count. Chains are shortened to the bike during fitting, so the supplied length only has to be long enough — but knowing it in advance is useful on a long-chainstay bike.
