What you are getting

A single-speed 1/2” × 1/8” chain at 114 links, brown-plated, for single-speed road, mountain, BMX, folding and small-wheel bikes. $7.99 — the cheapest chain on this page.

It is the only chain here that tells you to shorten it

“114 links, and you can adjust the length according to the length of your bicycle chain. (114 links, enough use for most bikes, you just need to adjust to the length you need.)”

Said twice, in one bullet. That is a small thing and it is the right thing: the buying advice on this page is that length is a separate figure from speed count, and a chain is shipped long and shortened to the bike. Of the five chains in this group, this is the only listing that says so out loud.

It also implies what it does not state: shortening needs a chain tool, and no quick link is mentioned.

Brown plating, named

“It is entirely brown-plated for rust resistance.”

A named finish, which the Schwinn and ZONKIE listings do not give. Brown or bronze plating on a chain is usually a conversion coating rather than a plated metal, and it is cosmetic as much as protective — no thickness or salt-spray figure is published, so there is nothing to compare with the KMC K1’s nickel.

“Double X-bridge design”, and the claim that does not fit

“Our bicycle chain adopts a double X-bridge design, which enhances the chain’s tensile and torsional strength as well as the smoothness of shifting gears.”

A single-speed chain does not shift gears. There is no derailleur, no cassette and nothing to shift; that half of the sentence belongs to a derailleur chain’s copy. The rest — tensile and torsional strength from the plate shape — is the same kind of claim the KMC K1 makes with numbers attached, and here it has none.

“Suitable for all brands of single-speed bicycles… single-speed mountain bikes, road bikes, folding bikes, and small wheel bikes.”

Four links more than the Schwinn, two fewer than the ZONKIE. On a folding or small-wheel bike the chain run is short and the surplus is real, which is why the instruction to shorten matters here more than on a cruiser.

What is not published

No weight, no pin length, no tensile figure, no plating thickness, no quick link, and no wear life. Two of the five bullets describe the material in adjectives; one describes shifting that cannot happen.

At $7.99 it is sixty-two cents under the Schwinn and $5.89 under the ZONKIE, and the only published advantage it holds over either is a named plating.

The questions riders ask

Why does it mention gear shifting?

It should not. A single-speed chain has no derailleur and no cassette, so there is nothing to shift — that half of the bullet has been carried over from a derailleur chain’s copy. The other half of the same claim, that the plate shape adds tensile and torsional strength, is the kind of thing the KMC K1 on this page states with numbers and this one states without.

Is 114 links the right length?

It is a starting length, and this is the only listing in the group that says so: ship long, shorten to the bike. On a folding or small-wheel bike the surplus will be considerable, so expect to remove links — which needs a chain tool, since no quick link is mentioned. If you would rather not own one, the ZONKIE chain here includes a reusable link.

Is the brown plating worth anything?

It is a named finish, which is more than the Schwinn or ZONKIE listings offer, and a coated chain does resist surface rust better than bare steel. What is missing is any thickness or test figure, so it cannot be compared with the KMC K1’s nickel plating. On a chain that costs $7.99 and is consumable by nature, the plating matters less than keeping it lubricated — the lubricants shelf on this site is the one that decides wear.
