What the manufacturer publishes

A 10-speed chain in 1/2” × 11/128”. High durability through reinforced pins, increased torsional strength and minimized tolerances. One hundred and twenty-two links, with a MissingLink connector. Compatibility with Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo.

The cross-brand compatibility

Worth understanding because it cuts against a common assumption. Mixing speed counts does not work — an 11-speed chain is narrower than a 10-speed cassette is spaced for. Mixing brands at the same speed count usually does, and several manufacturers state it. KMC states it here.

A quick link closes by hand, so joining the chain needs no tool at all. It also means a chain that breaks on a ride is a five-minute stop rather than a walk home, provided you carry a spare link matching the speed count.

Note that manufacturers differ on whether their quick links are reusable. Follow what the packaging states rather than a general rule.

Long, deliberately. Chains are shortened to the bike, and the manufacturer’s length-setting method for your derailleur is what governs — not a rule of thumb.

Can I use a KMC chain on a Shimano drivetrain?

KMC states compatibility with Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo at this speed count. Chains from different manufacturers at the same speed count are frequently interchangeable, and this one says so explicitly.

What is a MissingLink?

KMC's quick link — a two-part connector that joins the chain without pressing a pin. It closes by hand and pulls tight under pedalling load, and it is what makes a roadside chain repair a thirty-second job.
