What you are getting

A single-speed 1/2” × 1/8” chain at 116 links, 340 g (12 oz), supplied with a reusable quick link. $13.88.

“Chain joints for the magic buckle, easy to disassemble, easy to clean, reusable.”

That is the one functional difference between the four single-speed chains in this group. A quick link means:

  • fitting the chain needs no chain tool
  • the chain comes off for degreasing and goes back on
  • and it goes back on more than once — a reusable link, not a one-shot pin

The KMC K1 on this page says nothing about a link, which on a riveted BMX chain means a pin and a tool. Schwinn directs you to “the Schwinn Chain Tool”. HuGuWdy says only “easy to install”.

The degreasers shelf on this site exists because a drivetrain has to be cleaned; a chain that unclips is the one you will actually clean.

Schwinn 112, HuGuWdy 114, KMC K1,100. More links means more to shorten and more frames it reaches — a cruiser, a long-wheelbase folder or a hub-geared town bike with the wheel set back in the dropouts.

The buying advice on this page is that length is a separate figure from speed count, and this is the chain with the most of it.

340 g (12 oz), published

Only two chains in this group publish a weight: this at 340 g (12 oz) for 116 links, and the KMC K1 at 411 g (14.5 oz) for 100. Per link that is 2.9 g (0.1 oz) against 4.1 g (0.1 oz) — the KMC is a heavier-built chain, not just a longer one, and this is the lighter everyday chain.

The rest of the listing is adjectives

“Special forging steel, repeated forging, strict control of materials to ensure the strength.” “Surface polishing, internal oiling.” “Professional equipment test spacing.” “Rust and corrosion.”

None of that is a specification. No plating is named, no tensile figure is given, and “rust and corrosion” is an unfinished sentence. Judge it on the three things that are real: 116 links, 340 g (12 oz), and a reusable quick link.

What is not published

No plating or coating, no pin length, no tensile strength, no stated wear life, and no compatibility statement beyond “single speed, 1 speed”. Nothing says whether it suits internal hub gears, though a 1/8” chain does by construction.

The questions riders ask

Do I need a chain tool?

Not to join it — the quick link does that by hand. You will still need one to shorten it, because at 116 links it is longer than most single-speed frames need and the surplus has to be removed. So the tool is needed once, at fitting, and never again: the reusable link means every later removal for cleaning is tool-free.

How is it different from the cheaper Schwinn and HuGuWdy chains?

Two published things. It gives a weight (340 g (12 oz)) where they give none, and it includes a reusable quick link where Schwinn points you at a chain tool and HuGuWdy says nothing. Beyond that, all three are 1/2" × 1/8" single-speed chains within four links of each other, and none publishes a plating, a pin length or a tensile figure.

Will it fit a three-speed hub-geared bike?

By construction, yes: a 1/8"-wide chain is the standard for a single rear sprocket, which is what an internal hub gear drives. The listing does not say so — it only says "single speed" — but the width is what decides, and 116 links is generous for a town frame. What it will not fit is a derailleur cassette, where the spacing needs 3/32" or narrower.
