What you are getting

Two sets of V-brake blocks, front and rear, in both 55 mm and 70 mm, with hex nuts, shims and a hex wrench. Rubber on an aluminum alloy backing. Left and right marked. $8.99.

Two lengths in one box, which nothing else here offers

“Including 2 sets of front & rear 55 mm (2.17 in) / 70 mm (2.76 in) brake pads.”

Every other rim shoe in this group is one length: 50 mm (1.97 in), 55 mm (2.17 in) or 60 mm (2.36 in). This box covers two, and length is the fitment figure that decides whether a block sits on the braking surface or hangs off it.

For a household with more than one bike — a 20-inch child’s bike and an adult mountain bike, say — that is genuinely useful, and the fifth bullet is written for exactly that buyer: “mountain bike, road bicycle, MTB, BMX, kids bike, children’s bike, folding bikes.”

And it says what it does NOT fit, which almost nothing does

“Not applicable for disc brake bikes and racing drop-bar caliper road bikes.”

Two exclusions, both correct and both useful. A disc brake takes a pad in a caliper, not a block on a post — the three fiches already published on this shelf are those pads. And a drop-bar road caliper takes a cartridge holder, which is the Shimano BR-6700 set on this page.

Stating a negative is rare. The introduction to this shelf says pads “are cut to a specific caliper family and are not interchangeable”, and this is the one listing that spells out which families it is not for.

The hardware in the box is the smooth-post hardware

“Hex nuts and shims and 1 hex wrench for installation.”

That tells you the post type without saying it: shims are the curved washers that set a smooth-post V-brake block’s angle against the rim, and a hex nut clamps it. A threaded post — the Kool Stop BMX shoe on this page — needs none of that.

So this is a smooth-post block, and the shims are the part that lets you set toe-in.

Left and right are not interchangeable

“Each pair of V brake shoes has one left and one right brake pad, please recognize the mark before installation, prevent wrong installation.”

Said in the fourth bullet and again by Chooee on this page. A V-brake block is cut asymmetrically so the leading edge meets the rim first; fitted the wrong way round it squeals and wears unevenly. The mark is on the block.

The compound claim is about noise, not power

“Optimized rubber formula eliminates harsh brake squeal… the slightly curved brake rubber won’t damage the rim, effectively protecting your aluminum wheel rims.”

Squeal and rim wear, rather than stopping distance. That is a sensible thing for a budget V-brake block to claim, and the curved profile is the same idea as Chooee’s “subtly curved arc design”.

Note the rim it protects: aluminum. As with everything in this group, carbon is not claimed.

What is not published

No width, no weight, no compound name, no wear-limit figure. An aluminum alloy backing is softer than the steel the Shimano BR-CT91 uses, which matters on a block clamped hard by a single bolt.

Color options are listed in the third bullet, which is where a dimension should have been.

The questions riders ask

Which length do I need?

Measure the block coming off. This box holds both 55 mm (2.17 in) and 70 mm (2.76 in), which covers most V-brake and cantilever arms — the other shoes in this group are single lengths of 50, 55 or 60 mm (2.36 in). A block longer than the braking surface overhangs the rim edge, which is the one place it must not touch; a short one concentrates pressure. Having both lengths is why this set suits a household rather than a bike.

Will it fit my road bike?

Only if the brakes are V-brake or cantilever. CNC says it plainly: "not applicable for disc brake bikes and racing drop-bar caliper road bikes". A drop-bar dual-pivot caliper takes a cartridge holder — the Shimano BR-6700 set on this page — and a disc brake takes a pad in a caliper, which is what the three fiches already published on this shelf are.

What are the shims for?

Toe-in. A smooth-post V-brake block is clamped through a slot, and the curved shims let you angle it so the leading edge touches the rim marginally before the trailing edge. That is what stops squeal — the same thing this listing’s compound claim is about, approached from the other end. A threaded-post shoe like the Kool Stop BMX one on this page has no shims and no adjustment.
