Bullwing SR2 towbar rack, 2 bikes review

The entry towbar rack here: two bikes, a tilting mechanism for boot access, and frame holders taking tubes up to 8.5 cm (3.3 in) — wider than most racks accept.

Our conclusion The budget entry, and the frame holder range is genuinely useful. Establish your towball nose weight before buying any rack, including this one.

Bullwing’s SR2 is the cheapest way onto a towball here, and it is honest about what it is.

What the manufacturer publishes

Mounting for two bikes on the towball. A tilting mechanism for boot access. A quick-release fastening, a lockable anti-theft arrangement with a padlock, and two frame holders with straps taking frames up to 8.5 cm (3.3 in) — described as not lockable. Suitability stated for vehicles with a normal tailgate, and explicitly not for buses or vans.

The 8.5 cm (3.3 in) frame holder

This is the specification worth noticing. Modern aluminum and carbon frames use oversized tubing, and a rack whose holders stop at 6 cm (2.4 in) can simply refuse to clamp them. Bullwing’s 8.5 cm (3.3 in) covers a wider range than most racks in this hub.

The figure that is not on this page

No payload. That is not an omission we can fill: the limit on any towbar rack is the nose weight your own towball is rated for, printed on the towbar plate and in the vehicle handbook, minus the rack’s own weight. Those are numbers for your vehicle, not for this product, and a comparison page cannot settle them.

Lighting and the plate

Every towbar rack needs its lighting board connected and checked — indicators, brake lights, fog light — and a duplicate number plate where the law requires one. Those requirements are national and change; read them from the authority that publishes them for every country on your route.

What we rate and what we flag

Strengths

  • Frame holders taking up to 8.5 cm (3.3 in), which covers oversized and modern aluminum frames
  • A tilting mechanism, so the boot still opens with bikes loaded
  • The lowest price by a wide margin for a towbar rack

Compromises

  • The manufacturer states it is not suitable for buses or vans
  • The frame holders themselves are not lockable
  • No payload figure published — the towball nose weight is the limit you must check yourself

The questions riders ask

Will it fit my car?

Bullwing states it suits vehicles with a normal tailgate and explicitly not buses or vans. The binding limit is your towball nose weight, printed on the towbar plate and in the vehicle handbook — check both before loading.

How thick a frame does it take?

The supplied frame holders take tubes up to 8.5 cm (3.3 in), which is more generous than most racks in this hub and covers oversized modern frames.
