SIGMA Sport has made cycling lights and instruments in Germany for a long time, and its two products here sit at opposite ends of the specification spectrum.
Where it appears here
The Aura 80 and BLAZE light set, and the DUO magnet-free cadence sensor.
What it is genuinely good at
Approved lighting that actually lights the road. The Aura 80 states 80 lux — more than double every other approved lamp in this catalog. An approved beam has a defined cut-off, so a brighter approved lamp puts more light on the road rather than higher into oncoming faces. That is the difference between being seen and seeing where you are going.
Where it is ordinary
Published detail on smaller products. The DUO cadence sensor’s specification is four adjectives and two protocols — no battery life, no IP rating, no weight. For a component that lives at crank height in road spray, an IP figure would be useful.
What to know before buying
The DUO measures cadence only, where the dual-mode sensors in the same hub switch between speed and cadence and cost less. Buy it for the brand fit with a SIGMA computer rather than on specification.
Availability is also worth checking: the DUO was not listed on the British or French markets when we checked, which is unusual for a brand of this size.
