Thule

Racks built for people who use one every weekend

Thule makes carriers, and its two products on this site are both the most expensive in their hubs.

Where it appears here

The EasyFold XT towbar rack and the UpRide roof carrier.

What it is genuinely good at

Solving the friction of repeated use. The EasyFold XT has torque-limiting knobs that click at the correct tension, integrated carry handles and removable arms. None of those make it carry more bikes; all of them make it less annoying to use every weekend.

Frame-free carrying. The UpRide holds the bike by the front wheel with no frame contact at all, which is why Thule states it as suitable for carbon frames. Carbon frames carry manufacturer clamping limits and some makers prohibit frame clamping outright; a carrier that avoids the question is a real solution.

Where it is ordinary

Published load figures. Neither product states a payload on its listing, where the Atera and Fischer racks in the same hub do. On a carrier, that is a surprising omission.

What to know before buying

For the towbar rack, establish your towball nose weight from the plate and the vehicle handbook. For the roof carrier, price the crossbars first — they are frequently the larger purchase.
