Read the other Supacaz listings first

This is Supacaz Super Sticky Kush bar tape in black, reference BT01A, 83 g (2.9 oz), at $40.29. And the listing has two bullets:

Star Plugz: Screw & Expand (3 mm (0.12 in)). Finish Tape: High-End Rubberized Tape. Supacaz Pattern Frost Print.

Both are about the accessories in the box. Neither is about the tape.

No thickness. No length. No width. No material. No layer construction. No mention of the Super Sticky PU top layer or the Kush foam core that the brand’s own other listings on this page describe at length.

What the tape almost certainly is

The brand’s Kush Gravel tape on this page, at $40.25, and its Star Fade tape, at $42, both describe the same product family:

  • a Super Sticky PU top layer that “remains extremely tacky in wet, rainy, or high-sweat conditions”
  • a Kush nano-foam middle layer for damping
  • a debossed surface pattern that wicks moisture
  • Star Plugz and rubberized finishing tape — the two things this listing does mention

So the construction is known from its siblings rather than from this page. At 83 g (2.9 oz) it sits between the Gravel’s 100 g (3.5 oz) (3.2 mm) and the Star Fade’s 50 g (1.8 oz), which is where a standard-thickness Kush would be expected to fall.

That is an inference. It is not what the listing says.

Four cents from a listing that explains everything

referencepricebulletsthickness
This one, blackBT01A$40.292—
Kush GravelBT-150A$40.25103.2 mm (0.13 in)
Kush Star FadeBT59$424—

The Gravel tape is four cents cheaper and tells you the thickness, the two layers, the wet-grip behavior, the UV and sweat resistance, the embossment’s function and the fitment.

If black is what you want, this is the listing. If information is what you want, read the Gravel page and then decide.

The two things it does publish are both worth having

Star Plugz, screw and expand, 3 mm. An expanding bar plug grips the inside of the bar instead of relying on friction, so it stays put over rough ground — and an open bar end is a sharp-edged tube. None of the three cheap tapes on this page specifies a plug type at all.

Rubberized finishing tape with the frost print. The strip that secures the final wrap at the top of the bar. The ALIEN PROS tape on this page includes end caps and no finishing tape; this includes both.

What is not published

Thickness, length, width, material, construction, roll count, wet-grip behavior — everything, in short, except the plugs and the finishing tape. The published weight, 83 g, is the only number on the page.

At $40.29 that is the thinnest data sheet on this shelf, from the brand with the best-documented tape on it.

The questions riders ask

What is actually in the box?

The listing confirms two things: Star Plugz (screw-and-expand, 3 mm (0.12 in)) and rubberized finishing tape. It never states the roll count, the length, the width or the thickness. Two rolls is the norm for drop-bar tape and is what the brand’s Gravel listing implies with "every kit", but this page does not say it.

Is it the same tape as the Gravel version?

The same family, not the same tape. The Gravel listing publishes 3.2 mm (0.13 in) and is explicitly thickened "to absorb severe trail vibrations"; this one publishes no thickness and weighs 83 g (2.9 oz) against the Gravel’s 100 g (3.5 oz) — which places it as a standard-thickness Kush. The construction described on the Gravel and Star Fade pages, PU over nano-foam, is the family’s, and this page does not mention it.

Why buy this rather than the Gravel tape?

For the color, and only for the color. The Gravel tape is four cents cheaper and publishes its thickness, both layers, its wet-grip behavior, its UV and sweat resistance and its fitment. If you want black and know the Kush construction, this is the right listing. If you are deciding whether Kush is worth $40, read the Gravel page.
