The same Kush construction, at half the weight of its own stablemate
Supacaz Kush Star Fade Red tape, PU over foam
Supacaz Super Sticky Kush bar tape in Star Fade Red, with a PU top layer over nano-foam and expanding bar plugs.
What you are getting
Supacaz Super Sticky Kush bar tape in Star Fade Red: a Super Sticky PU top layer over Kush nano-foam, with the Supacaz embossment and Star Plugz screw-and-expand bar ends. 50 g (1.8 oz). $42 — the most expensive tape on this page.
Three Supacaz tapes in this survey, all described as Super Sticky Kush:
| reference | weight | thickness | price |
|---|
| Kush Gravel | BT-150A | 100 g (3.5 oz) | 3.2 mm (0.13 in) | $40.25 |
| Kush black | BT01A | 83 g (2.9 oz) | — | $40.29 |
| Star Fade Red | BT59 | 50 g (1.8 oz) | — | $42 |
The Gravel at 100 g (3.5 oz) is consistent with its published 3.2 mm (0.13 in). The black at 83 g (2.9 oz) is plausible for a standard-thickness version of the same construction. Fifty grams is half the Gravel, for a tape whose four bullets describe the same PU-over-foam build.
Either the Star Fade is a noticeably thinner tape — which would be a real difference nobody states — or the weight is wrong. Neither this listing nor the others resolve it, and no thickness is published to settle it.
For a buyer the question is practical: at 50 g (1.8 oz), is this the thin racing version of Kush or the standard one? Ask before ordering.
The construction is described properly, in four bullets
“Super Sticky PU (top layer): superior supple hand feel with long lasting performance. Extremely advanced polyurethane that remains tacky in wet conditions. Highly resistant to UV rays, climate and sweat.”
“Kush Foam (middle layer): exclusive compound that maximizes dampening via a nano amount of foam. Shock absorbing qualities that drastically improve bike handling in the corners, downhill and in rough conditions.”
Two named layers, each with a stated job. That is a better explanation than the brand’s own black tape on this page manages in two bullets, and it is the same text the Gravel listing expands on.
What PU buys over EVA is grip when wet. The three cheap tapes on this page — ALIEN PROS, BV and Thinvik — are EVA or cork-in-EVA, and none of them can claim it.
The embossment is named as a function
“The embossment creates the unique Supacaz look and wicks away moisture which maximizes grip.”
Texture channels sweat off the contact patch. Every premium tape does it; this one says what it is for.
Star Plugz, “screw and expand (3 mm (0.12 in))”
An expanding bar plug rather than a push-fit. It grips the inside of the bar and stays there — and an open bar end is a sharp-edged tube, which is the reason plugs matter at all.
All three Supacaz listings specify this; none of the three cheap tapes on this page specifies any plug type.
And the color is the point of this version
Star Fade Red is a graduated two-tone wrap. That is what distinguishes BT59 from BT01A in black, and it is a legitimate reason to pay $1.71 more — the shelf exists to compare function, and a visible part has a second job.
What is not published
No thickness, no length, no width, no roll count, and no explanation of the 50 g. On a $42 tape, four figures missing and one that looks wrong is a poor sheet — and it is the brand’s own Gravel listing on this page that shows how much better it could be.
