SKS GERMANY SUPERSHORT mini pump vs CXWXC 20 × 16 g (0.6 oz) cartridges with 2-in-1 head

Unlimited attempts, or twenty seconds?

CO2 is faster and a pump does not run out. That is the whole comparison, and it turns on one question: whether a second puncture on the same ride is a scenario you take seriously.

A tick marks the better answer on that line only. Counting ticks does not decide the page — the two verdicts below do, because these products answer different questions.

Which of the two, for which rider

Buy the SUPERSHORT mini pump

The one that always works. Three valve types including Dunlop, unlimited attempts, and a T-handle that is what makes a 16.4 cm (6.5 in) pump usable rather than merely small — without one you are pushing on a stub with two fingers.

Buy the 20 × 16 g (0.6 oz) cartridges with 2-in-1 head

The fast answer, bought in bulk. Twenty cartridges cost about what a five-cartridge kit does, and CO2 refills a tire in seconds with no effort — which matters when it is cold and your hands are wet. Every cartridge is one attempt, and you cannot make more at the roadside.

The questions riders ask

How many cartridges does one tire need?

A 16 g (0.6 oz) cartridge is sized for a single road tire. A wide mountain bike tire may take more than one, so carry as many as the number of punctures you are willing to survive.

Can I fly with CO2 cartridges?

They are pressure vessels and are commonly prohibited in both hold and cabin baggage. Rules differ by airline and country — check the specific airline rather than assuming, and plan on buying them at the destination.

Will the CXWXC head fit a Dunlop valve?

CXWXC states Presta and Schrader. If any bike in your household has Dunlop valves, the SKS pump covers it and this head does not.
