Garmin is the best-known name in bike computers, and its range on this site extends into sensors and indoor trainers.
Where it appears here
The Edge Explore 2 computer, the Speed Sensor 2 and Cadence Sensor 2 bundle, and the Tacx Boost trainer.
What it is genuinely good at
Ecosystem coherence. A Garmin computer, Garmin sensors and a Garmin-owned Tacx trainer talk to each other and to one application without configuration. For anyone who wants the devices to work rather than to be configured, that is the argument.
Long support. Garmin devices receive firmware updates for years, which matters on a product bought for a decade.
The on-board recording in the Speed Sensor 2 — a commute logged with no head unit on the bars — is a genuinely useful capability that its competitors do not have.
Where it is ordinary
Battery life. The Edge Explore 2 states 16 hours where the Bryton in the same hub states 50. For day rides that is irrelevant; for touring it is the specification that decides.
What to know before buying
The Explore line is a touring navigator, not a training computer. If you want power analysis and structured workouts, that is a different Garmin range.
